GHANA METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY

Initially set up as the Meteorological Services Department which operated under the Civil Service, the Ghana Meteorological Agency is being transformed to operate as a semi-autonomous public sector institution by the Ghana Meteorological Agency Act 682 of 2004.

With staff strength of almost 1000, the Ghana Meteorological Service provides information to the general public for the protection of life and property from weather and climate-related hazards. It also provides specialized weather information and support of the activities of sectors such as Agriculture, Aviation, Water Resources Management and the Construction Industry. In addition, it is the official advisor of Government on all matters concerning meteorology.

The Agency is looking for suitably qualified Ghanaians with exceptional leadership qualities as well as vision, drive and enthusiasm to succeed, to fill the under-listed top executive positions which are currently vacant.


DIRECTOR – GENERAL
Job Description

The Director-General shall, subject to general directives of the Board, be responsible for:

• the direction of the work of the Agency
• the day-to-day administration of the Agency, and
• direct and control all employees of the Agency, and
• ensure implementation of the decisions of the Board.

Qualifications/Experience

• A good university degree in Meteorology, Physics, Mathematics or Statistics
• A minimum of a Masters degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
• A post-graduate qualification in Business/Public Administration will be an advantage.
• Evidence of leadership skills acquired in a top management position for at least fifteen (15) years.
• The ideal candidate will have a proven record of managing a large organization with multi-site operations
• He/She will need to demonstrate business acumen, commercial awareness and diplomacy.
• Communication, advocacy and networking skills are essential, as the Director-General deals with various stakeholders and is the permanent representative of Ghana with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
• Excellent leadership, computer literacy, and interpersonal skills
• Preference will be given to candidates aged not more than 52 years.


DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL (TECHNICAL)

Job Description

The Deputy Director-General (Technical’s) (DDGT) position provides the necessary technical capability to the Ghana Meteorological Agency in pursuance of the Agency’s corporate objectives, The DDGT:

• initiates the dynamic processes for forecasting developments and coordinates plans, policies, programmes and projects for integrating development plans.
• ensures that appropriate procedures are laid out for effective monitoring of GMA’s activities, and
• ensures that appropriate systems are installed and maintained for effective evaluation of staff performance.

Qualifications/Experience

• A good university degree in Meteorology, Physics, Mathematics or Statistics
• A minimum of a Masters degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
• A post-graduate qualification in Public/Business Administration will be an advantage
• Evidence of leadership skills acquired in a top level position for at least ten (10) years.
• Must have high-level policy analysis skills and the intellectual capacity to grasp the essence and spirit of researched information and analytical presentations.
• Must posses proven skills in programme and project analysis and budgeting
• Very good communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
• Must possess excellent computer literacy skills.
• Must be able to work productively for long and sustained hours


DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL (SUPPORT SERVICES)

Job Description

The objectives of the Deputy Director-General (Support Services’) position are two-fold:
• to assist the Director-General raise resources required for GMA’s operations, and
• judiciously account for the use of resources raised.

Qualifications/Experience

• A good university degree in Business/Public Administration, Finance, Commerce, Physics, Mathematics, Meteorology or Computer Science
• A minimum of a Masters degree in Business/Public Administration, Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
• Evidence of leadership skills acquired in Management positions for at least ten(10) years
• The ideal candidate would
- demonstrate a strong track record of business acumen and commercial awareness.- have the ability to build partnerships with a broad range of clients within and outside the Agency and be able to present and win support for ideas
- excellent written and verbal communication, computer literacy, leadership and interpersonal skills

The Agency offers a competitive remuneration package within the public sector.
