Climatological Rainfall Analysis

Bulletin

The standardized anomaly plot gives a clear difference between the two climatological windows (i.e. 1981-2010 and 1991-2020). It

indicates a deficit of rainfall in the transition zone and some parts of the Northern zone in the country. Conversely, the Forest, Coastal

as well as some parts of the Northern zones shows a normal rainfall distribution for the period. The time series plot from 1981 to 2010

shows an increasing trend of 280.47mm with an average rainfall amount of 34,762.58mm. The highest amount of rainfall was recorded

in 2010 (42,514.9mm) showing the wettest year and the lowest was in 1983 (21,225mm) depicting the driest year in that window. The

plot from the new climatological window (1991 – 2020) also shows an increasing trend (26.06 mm). The average rainfall distribution

in this window was 36,955.6mm. The highest amount of rainfall was recorded in the year 1991(42,550.5mm) showing the wettest year

while 1992 (29,522mm) recorded the driest year in the new climatological window. Comparing these two climatologies, it can be

deduced that, 1983 was the driest year and 1991 was the wettest.
