Thunderstorms over Northern Ghana

A rainstorm is developing over the eastern portion of the northern sector. This storm is is expected to develop further and move westwards to produce scattered thunderstorms within the northern sector and parts of the transition zone this afternoon into the evening. The Oti, Northern, and parts of the Savannah and Bono East regions are expected to experience moderate to heavy rains between 3PM and 7PM. The Upper East, Northeast, Upper West, and Bono regions are also expected to experience similar conditions between 5PM and 10PM.

Residents in the affected areas should avoid outdoor activities. During the thunderstorm, stay indoors and away from windows, unplug electrical appliances to prevent damage from lightning strikes, and avoid using corded phones or electrical devices connected to outlets. If caught outdoors, seek substantial shelter immediately and never take refuge under trees during lightning activity. Drivers should exercise extreme caution by reducing speed, using headlights for visibility, and avoiding flooded sections of roadway
