ALERT: Rainstorm Expected over Southern Ghana

Area

Southern Ghana

Event description

A band of rain clouds has engulfed the inland areas of the Coastal sector and parts of the forest zone and is expected to bring moderate rainfall to the Eastern, Greater Accra, Western, and Central regions, with isolated pockets of heavy rain. Separately, a storm system developing along the southern border of Ghana-Togo with bulk of it advancing from southern Benin is forecast to produce moderate to heavy rains across the Volta region and portions of the Oti region between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with Donkorkrom, Nkawkaw, and their surrounding areas likely to feel its effects from around 6:30 PM. Meanwhile, in the Ashanti region, localised cloud buildups have been identified around Ejisu, Kentinkrono, and Asokwa, which are anticipated to produce slight to moderate showers, with broader rainfall activity expected to spread across the region as the evening progresses.

Instructions

Residents in the affected and anticipated areas are urged to exercise caution and remain alert as the storm progresses. People are advised to stay indoors where possible, avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas, and refrain from sheltering under trees or in open spaces during periods of thunder and lightning. Motorists should drive carefully due to reduced visibility and potentially slippery road surfaces, while farmers and outdoor workers are encouraged to seek shelter immediately upon the onset of rainfall. Keep following the Ghana Meteorological Agency for updates.
