Courtesy Visit to the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive

On 17th March 2026, a delegation from the Ghana Meteorological Agency Headquarters joined the Kumasi Regional Meteorological Office to commemorate the 2026 Meteorological Awareness Month. The visit marked a pivotal milestone, representing the first in a series of planned management engagements across regional and district offices aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and advancing the Agency’s outreach initiatives.
The engagement took place at the office of the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive in Kumasi. Leading the GMet delegation, Dr. Ignatius K. Williams, Deputy Director-General for Operations, formally introduced the Agency to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Amoh Kamel. He presented a comprehensive overview of the Agency’s mandate, highlighting its ongoing efforts in climate and weather service delivery, as well as initiatives designed to enhance public awareness and preparedness.
Key highlights of the presentation included the 2026 Seasonal Forecast for Southern Ghana, a review of major weather events in recent years, and the urgent need for climate action and mitigation. Emphasis was placed on anticipated weather patterns and their potential impacts on communities and livelihoods within the Ashanti Region.
In his remarks, Hon. Amoh Kamel commended GMet for its efforts and encouraged the delegation to intensify public education, ensuring that weather advisories are effectively communicated to the citizenry, particularly through community and religious platforms. He also underscored the importance of fostering greater public engagement on climate and environmental issues.
“As the Municipal Chief Executive, I assure you of our commitment to strengthen collaboration with GMet, integrate weather information into our planning and emergency response systems, work closely with NADMO and relevant stakeholders to improve disaster risk management, and support public education campaigns across communities such as Atonsu, Ahinsan, and beyond,” Hon. Amoh Kamel stated.
Also present at the engagement were Ms. Vivian Abla Kally, Deputy Director-General in charge of Services; Ms. Gifty Samor-Dua, Head of Human Resources, Mr. Richard Ampofo, Deputy Officer in Charge of the Kotoka International Airport Meteorological Office and Mr. Kwame Ofori-Agyeman, Regional Met Officer, Kumasi.
The visit concluded on a positive note, marked by a renewed sense of collaboration and shared purpose. The engagement not only strengthened institutional ties but also set a constructive precedent for subsequent visits across the country, further reinforcing GMet’s commitment to providing reliable weather information and enhancing public engagement.
