DMI Presents IT Gap Analysis Findings and Recommendations to GMet Board and Management
On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, a delegation from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) and the Royal Danish Embassy in Ghana met with the Governing Board and Management of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) to present the key findings and recommendations of the recently completed IT Gap Analysis.
The engagement formed part of ongoing collaboration between GMet and DMI aimed at strengthening the Agency’s digital and technological capacity. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the findings of the assessment, outline priority actions arising from the recommendations, and seek the support of the Governing Board for the allocation of internal resources required to facilitate implementation.
The IT Gap Analysis assessed GMet’s current ICT and digital infrastructure, systems, connectivity, cybersecurity arrangements, data management processes, and operational workflows. The assessment identified areas requiring improvement to support more efficient forecasting operations, data management, service dissemination, and overall institutional effectiveness.
Recommendations from the analysis focused on strengthening ICT systems, enhancing cybersecurity, improving connectivity and data management, and advancing GMet’s digital transformation agenda. The proposed interventions are expected to enhance operational efficiency and support the delivery of timely and reliable weather and climate information to stakeholders across the country.
Discussions during the meeting focused on practical steps for implementing the recommendations, ensuring alignment between the Governing Board and its Technical Sub-Committee, and securing the institutional support necessary to advance GMet’s digital transformation efforts. Participants also discussed opportunities for strengthening collaboration with relevant government institutions and integrating GMet’s digital needs into broader national digital development initiatives.
Members of the Governing Board and Management welcomed the findings and recommendations and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening GMet’s technological and operational capacity. The discussions underscored the importance of continued collaboration between GMet, DMI, the Royal Danish Embassy, and other stakeholders in advancing digital transformation and enhancing meteorological service delivery in Ghana.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s meteorological services and strengthen the technological systems required to support weather forecasting, climate services, early warning dissemination, and informed decision-making for national development and resilience.
