Dr. Eric Asuman Calls for Full Compliance with Smart Workplace Platform

The Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Dr. Eric Asuman, has called on staff to fully adopt the Smart Workplace platform as part of efforts to digitize the Agency’s operations, improve records management and reduce the cost of doing business.
He made the call on Wednesday, 14th October, 2026 during the opening ceremony of the second phase of the Smart Workplace Training Programme for selected Head Office and Accra International Airport Meteorological Office (AIAMO) staff, emphasizing that the platform forms part of the government’s digitalization policy, which public institutions are required to implement.
Dr. Asuman explained that the system provides an electronic means of communication and record keeping, making it easier to track transactions, retrieve information and reduce the risks associated with missing or incomplete physical files.
He noted that although GMet had already trained selected staff from its Regional and District Offices, compliance with the platform had not been universal. The current training, therefore, is intended to strengthen adoption at the Head Office and AIAMO and equip participants to train colleagues who were not selected for the programme.
“We are trainers of trainees,” he said, urging participants to take the sessions seriously, ask questions and master the system well enough to guide others.

The Director-General stressed that the success of the training would depend on what participants do with the knowledge acquired after the programme. He said the investment in staff development must translate into improved operations and called on participants to ensure that their colleagues are equipped to use the platform effectively.
The Deputy Director-General responsible for General Services, Ms. Vivian Abla Kally, also urged staff to embrace digital systems and work collaboratively rather than operate in silos. She stressed that the move from manual to electronic processes requires the commitment of all directorates, regardless of their technical or administrative functions.
Ms. Kally noted that GMet already uses other electronic platforms for various operations, including e-procurement and e-transport, while additional digital processes, such as electronic staff appraisal, are being pursued. She encouraged participants to explore how Smart Workplace could support their specific roles and help reduce the continued circulation of hard-copy documents within the Agency.
She also acknowledged that electronic systems could face challenges, including internet connectivity and computer security issues, and stressed the need for the IT team to remain alert to these risks as the Agency expands its use of digital tools.

The opening ceremony was attended by other members of Management, including the Head of Human Resource, Mrs. Gifty Ofori Samor-Dua, and the Head of Finance, Mr. Richard Dogbo.

The second phase follows an earlier training programme for staff from GMet’s Regional and District Offices. Together, the training initiatives are intended to improve the Agency’s adoption of Smart Workplace and strengthen compliance with its digitalization objectives.
The programme will provide selected Head Office and AIAMO staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to use the platform and support its effective implementation across their respective units.
