As part of efforts to strengthen leadership capacity and promote effective performance across the organisation, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has concluded a three day training programme on Performance Management and Conflict Management for Unit Heads, Regional and District Officers.

The training, which commenced on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, ended on Thursday, 20 August 2026, with participants gaining practical knowledge and skills to improve performance management, strengthen accountability, and effectively manage workplace conflicts.

The programme covered key areas including performance planning and appraisal, monitoring of targets, effective communication, conflict resolution, and approaches to fostering productive working relationships.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Deputy Director-General, Operations, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, acknowledged the support of the Director-General, Dr. Eric Asuman, in ensuring that initiatives aimed at strengthening the Agency had been successfully implemented.

Dr. Williams urged participants to ensure that the knowledge gained extends beyond the training room, particularly by sharing the lessons with colleagues at the regional and district offices. He emphasised the need for the lessons from the training to be reflected in how participants engage with and appraise their staff.

“Let this reflect in your appraisees as you work with them,” he said, while reminding participants to respect the responsibilities and roles associated with the various portfolios and positions within the Agency.

The Director-General, Dr. Eric Asuman, subsequently challenged participants to translate the knowledge gained into practical improvements in their work and across the Agency.

“Let’s put into practice what we have learnt here. It is the only way we can see our organisation progressing,” Dr. Asuman said.

He urged participants to move beyond routine approaches to their responsibilities and contribute more deliberately to the growth of the organisation. He also encouraged them to become ambassadors for GMet by helping the public understand the Agency’s mandate and the importance of its services.

Dr. Asuman further called on participants to value their roles, take pride in their work, and use the knowledge acquired from the training to positively influence their colleagues and contribute to organisational development.

The training forms part of GMet’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional and human resource capacity while promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, effective leadership, and positive workplace relationships.

Participants are expected to apply the knowledge and practical tools gained in their respective units, regions, and districts and extend the benefits of the training to colleagues across the Agency.
