On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Dr. Eric Asuman, held an engagement with key media personalities as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Agency and the media.

The engagement brought together General Managers, Directors, News Editors, Producers, and senior journalists from various media houses who supported the Agency throughout Meteorological Awareness Month 2026 by providing platforms for public education and discussions on weather and climate issues.

The meeting, which was held in a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, served as a meet-and-greet session and an opportunity for the Agency to express appreciation to the media for their partnership and continuous support in promoting meteorological and climate information to the public.

In his remarks, the Dr. Asuman thanked the media for their role in helping to amplify the Agency’s messages during Meteorological Awareness Month, noting that the success of the nationwide awareness campaign was largely due to the strong collaboration between GMet and the media.

He emphasized that the media remains one of the most important partners of the Agency because weather and climate information only becomes useful when it reaches the public in a timely and understandable manner.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both the Agency and media representatives to discuss ways of improving communication of climate information to the public, as well as exploring new areas of collaboration.

Dr. Asuman noted that building a strong relationship with the media is critical to ensuring that accurate weather information reaches every part of the country, helping to protect lives, property, and livelihoods.

Media representatives present at the meeting also commended the Agency for the Meteorological Awareness Month initiative and pledged their continued support in promoting weather and climate education in Ghana.

The engagement formed part of the Agency’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy to build stronger partnerships with institutions that play key roles in public education, national development, and disaster risk reduction.
