The Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Dr. Eric Asuman, has urged assistant meteorologists to apply the knowledge and skills gained from a recent capacity-building workshop with renewed passion and dedication. He made this call while addressing participants at the closing ceremony of a two-week competency training and certification workshop held in Accra on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Organized by GMet in partnership with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), the workshop commenced on Monday, April 5, 2025. It aimed to enhance the technical capabilities of assistant meteorologists to improve service delivery across the country. Over the two weeks, participants received training in key thematic areas, including numerical weather prediction, aeronautical reporting, observation techniques, satellite meteorology, and public weather forecasting.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Asuman encouraged the assistant meteorologists to channel the knowledge gained into tangible improvements at their various stations. “The real impact of this workshop will be felt in how you put the knowledge you have acquired into practice. I encourage you to take the knowledge back to your stations and offices and apply it well,” he said.

He further urged them to embrace excellence in their delivery and stay committed to the values of their profession. “Be champions of accuracy, innovation, and clear communication, and let the knowledge and skills you have gained here spark a renewed passion in your work. Let us go out there with confidence, ready to tackle any challenge and seize every opportunity to serve our country with pride and excellence,” he added.

This training initiative reflects GMet’s broader commitment to strengthening the technical competence of its workforce in response to Ghana’s growing need for accurate, timely, and actionable weather information. With climate-related risks becoming more frequent and severe, initiatives like these are crucial in building national resilience and supporting critical sectors such as aviation, agriculture, and disaster management.
