The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) is participating in the Second Joint Forum on Climate Services and Space for Early Warning in Africa (ClimSA–SEWA), taking place from 23–27 June 2025 at the Movenpick Hotel in Windhoek, Republic of Namibia. The forum is being held under the theme “Accelerating Access to Climate and Weather Services for Resilient African Economies and Communities.”

Organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) with support from the European Union (EU) and other technical partners, the forum brings together meteorological agencies, regional climate centers, policymakers, researchers, and development stakeholders from across the continent to showcase progress in climate services and early warning systems.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency is attending as a key national partner in the ClimSA programme, which seeks to enhance climate information services and early warning capabilities across Africa. Through its participation, GMet will share its achievements in improving public access to climate data, integrating climate services into national development planning, and supporting sector-specific resilience in agriculture, water, health, and disaster risk reduction.

Over the years, GMet has made significant contributions to the implementation of user-driven climate services in Ghana. These include the expansion of observation infrastructure, improved seasonal forecasting, early warning dissemination, and strategic collaborations with regional bodies such as AGRHYMET and ACMAD. At the forum, GMet will highlight how these efforts have contributed to informed decision-making, enhanced disaster preparedness, and increased national capacity to adapt to climate variability.

The forum also provides an opportunity for GMet to engage with other African national meteorological services, share best practices, and explore areas for technical cooperation. It forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of meteorological agencies in supporting sustainable development and resilience-building across the continent.

As climate change continues to pose significant challenges for Africa, especially in weather-sensitive sectors, the work of institutions like GMet remains critical. Through platforms like ClimSA–SEWA, the Ghana Meteorological Agency reaffirms its commitment to delivering reliable, accessible, and actionable climate services for national development and regional resilience.
