GMet and UKCEH Hold Workshop on Storms and Heatwaves to Enhance Climate Preparedness

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), in collaboration with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH), has commenced a two-day workshop focused on improving understanding and preparedness for storms and heatwaves in Ghana.
The workshop, which began on Monday, 16th June 2025, is part of the ongoing Lightning Project and is being facilitated by a team from UKCEH. It focuses on sharing knowledge about heatwaves in Ghana, examining current understanding, analyzing future trends, and assessing the agency’s operational needs in responding to extreme weather events.
The Director-General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman, encouraged participants to take the sessions seriously, highlighting the importance of such engagements in building capacity to support the country’s socioeconomic development. The sessions are designed to equip staff with practical insights and tools to strengthen national preparedness and improve the delivery of climate services.
With the increasing frequency and intensity of storms and heatwaves due to climate change, the workshop provides a timely opportunity to align technical knowledge with national response systems.
