GMet Closes First Batch of Aeronautical Meteorological Refresher Training
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has concluded the first batch of its Aeronautical Meteorological Refresher Training, with management urging participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve the quality of aeronautical meteorological services.
The five-day training, which brought together staff from the Accra International Airport Meteorological Office, focused on strengthening technical knowledge and keeping participants abreast of developments in aeronautical meteorology, including space weather forecasting.
At the closing ceremony, the Deputy Director-General, Operations, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams encouraged participants to put the knowledge acquired into practice and continue providing feedback on areas that require improvement. He also urged staff to raise operational concerns ahead of inspections to allow management to address them appropriately.
The Director-General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman, commended participants, facilitators and organisers for their commitment to the programme. He noted that accurate and timely meteorological information remains critical to safe and efficient aviation operations and stressed the need for continuous skills development as aeronautical meteorology evolves.
Dr. Asuman said recent feedback from aviation inspectors pointed to significant improvements in GMet’s aeronautical meteorological services, including a reduction in audit findings. He urged staff to sustain the progress and ensure that investments in training are reflected in their work.
He further encouraged participants to continue sharing experiences, embracing new technologies and promoting a culture of learning and excellence. He noted that the training forms part of GMet’s broader efforts to build its internal capacity and support the establishment of a WMO-accredited Regional Training Centre in Ghana, with aeronautical meteorology identified as one of the key areas of focus.
The Director-General subsequently declared the workshop officially closed and wished participants a safe return to their respective stations.
