GMet Commissions Strategic Planning Team to deliver new strategic plan by January 2026

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) today officially commissioned a multi-disciplinary team to develop the Agency’s next Strategic Plan, marking a significant milestone in shaping its future direction.
The commissioning ceremony was performed by the Deputy Director-General for Operations, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, at the Agency’s headquarters. The Strategic Planning Team is led by the Director of Administration, Mr. Charles Bredu Badoo who also serves as the Activity Lead for the Communication and Policy activity.
Members of the team have been drawn from key departments including Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Administration, bringing together a diverse range of skills and institutional knowledge.
The team’s Terms of Reference include reviewing GMet’s current strategic position, defining its mission and vision, developing a costed, phased implementation plan for its strategic objectives and priorities, and ensuring institutional collaboration.
The plan is expected to align with national and international frameworks such as the National Development Planning Commission’s programmes, the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Strategic Directions, and the priorities of the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation.
Mr. Williams urged the team to work collaboratively, adhere to the agreed timelines, and ensure the resulting document reflects the Agency’s spirit, culture, and aspirations. He further emphasized the need for the strategy to serve as a practical roadmap for delivering quality meteorological services in support of national development.
The team will receive technical support from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), with the strategy development forming part of activities under Outcome D of the Strategic Sector Cooperation between Ghana and Denmark. Work for the team begins immediately, with the final Strategic Plan expected to be completed and delivered by January 2026.
Once finalized, the Strategic Plan will provide a clear pathway for strengthening GMet’s operations, enhancing service delivery, and positioning the Agency to meet evolving local, national, and global climate and weather demands.
