As part of activities to commemorate the 2026 National Meteorological Awareness Month, a delegation from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), led by the Director of Administration, Mr. Charles Bredu Badoo, and the Deputy Director in charge of Forecasting, Mr. Joseph Tetteh Portuphy, visited the Akim Oda District Office on Monday, 24th March 2026 to mark the occasion.

The visit formed part of GMet’s ongoing efforts to deepen public awareness and understanding of weather and climate services, particularly at the community level. During the engagement, the team interacted with local media outlets, including Akyemansa FM and Community FM, where they highlighted the critical role of GMet in national development, shared insights into weather and climate patterns, and presented the seasonal forecast to guide decision-making.

In a show of strengthened institutional collaboration, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central, Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako. Discussions focused on the importance of integrating weather and climate information into local governance and development planning.

The day’s activities culminated in a well-attended community durbar at Gyadem, which brought together a broad cross-section of stakeholders. Present at the durbar were representatives from key partner institutions, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Agriculture through its Extension Officers. Also in attendance were Municipal Assembly officials, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, and members of the community.

Through these engagements, GMet sought to bridge the gap between scientific weather information and public understanding, ensuring that communities are better equipped to respond to weather and climate variability. The initiative also reinforced the importance of collaboration among institutions in promoting climate awareness and resilience at the grassroots level.
