GMet Engages World Food Programme

As part of activities for the 2025 Meteorological Awareness Month (MAM), Management and staff of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) paid a courtesy call on the World Food Programme (WFP) office in Accra on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share GMet’s 2025 seasonal weather forecast with the WFP and explore strategies to ensure the forecast reaches farmers and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector, enabling timely and informed decision-making. Country Director of the World Food Programme, Miss Aurore Rusiga, and her team welcomed the initiative, commending GMet for its proactive engagement and commitment to advancing early preparedness across sectors.
Miss Rusiga acknowledged the Agency’s critical contribution to food security and resilience, especially in vulnerable communities, and expressed appreciation for the timely and relevant information. The Deputy Director in charge of Research and Applied Meteorology at GMet, Mrs. Francisca Martey walked the team through key highlights of the forecast, sharing targeted advisories and recommendations to guide planning throughout the season.
In reaffirming WFP’s support, Miss Rusiga emphasized the importance of integrating seasonal forecasts into routine agricultural practices to reduce risk and enhance productivity. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening collaboration and ensuring that weather and climate information becomes a vital tool for ensuring that weather and climate information serves as a practical resource for decision-making and resilience throughout the agricultural value chain.
