GMet Facilitators Anchor Two-Week National Meteorology Training

A two-week competency training and certification workshop for Assistant Meteorologists, organized by the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) in collaboration with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), concluded on Thursday, April 17, 2025, with a spotlight on the team of instructors whose expertise shaped the course delivery.

The workshop, which commenced on Monday, April 5, aimed to enhance the technical capabilities of Assistant Meteorologists to improve service delivery across the country. Over the two weeks, participants received training in key thematic areas, including numerical weather prediction, aeronautical reporting, observation techniques, satellite meteorology, and public weather forecasting.

Facilitating the training were professionals drawn from various departments of GMet. The team included Ms. Faustina Asamoah, Mrs. Gifty Samor-Dua, Ms. Felicity Ahafianyo, and Messrs. Moses Lartey, Raphael Boakye, Jeremiah Laziah, Adom Derkye, Thomas Biney, and Joshua Asamoah, with Mr. Joseph Portuphy serving as the lead instructor. Each of the instructors led different aspects of the workshop, delivering sessions tailored to their areas of expertise. The interactive nature of the sessions, as well as the practical emphasis, provided participants with a real-time understanding of tools and systems used in meteorological operations. Several participants noted the clarity and depth of the presentations, which reflected the instructors’ familiarity with both the theoretical and applied dimensions of the field.

The training forms part of broader efforts by GMet and its partners to strengthen the capacity of its technical staff, in line with the Agency’s mandate to provide accurate and timely weather and climate information.
The instructors are expected to continue playing key roles in similar capacity-building initiatives, as GMet prioritizes internal knowledge transfer and technical mentorship within the agency.
