GMet & HYDRO Set to Host Innovative Satellite Training for Sustainable Agriculture in Northern Ghana

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has the Ghana Hydrological Authority (HYDRO) to launch an initiative dubbed the Tailor-Made Training (TMT). This initiative aims to revolutionize flood management and meteorological analysis. The TMT, facilitated by experts from HKV, will take place from November 16 to 17 at GMet, followed by HYDRO from November 21 to 23 in Accra, Ghana.
The training will focus on utilizing advanced satellite-based information, specifically through Google Earth Engine (GEE), to enhance the capabilities of staff from GMet and HYDRO in supporting farmers in the region. The 5-day training program is set to build the capacity of participants with sessions on understanding satellite-based information and practical exercises in generating maps depicting flood frequencies, wet season onset, and theoretical crop growing periods.
The initiative will culminate in a crucial dissemination seminar, connecting authorities, research institutes, and farmer groups to amplify the impact of this program on sustainable development in flood-prone areas.
A total of eleven staff from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) will be participating in the training.
