GMet Pays Courtesy Call On Christian Council of Ghana

As part of activities for this year’s National Meteorological Awareness Month, a delegation from the Ghana Meteorological Agency paid a courtesy call on the Executive Council of the Christian Council of Ghana on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The engagement took place at the Council’s head office in Accra.

The Director General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman who led the GMet delegation introduced the Agency to the Council and presented on key efforts of the Agency towards Climate and weather service delivery including highlights of the 2026 Seasonal Forecast for Southern Ghana, major weather events over the past years, need for climate action and climate mitigation efforts drawing attention to expected weather patterns and their likely impact on communities and livelihoods.

Dr Asuman appealed to the Council and its member churches to support GMet’s public education efforts. He encouraged the church to promote environmental stewardship and to help make congregants more conscious of changing weather and climate conditions. He further urged clergy to share official advisories issued by the Agency with their various congregations.

The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, urged the clergy to inform their congregants about weather advisories issued by GMet and to take an active interest in matters relating to climate and the environment.

Also present were the General Secretary of the Council, Dr Cyril G. K. Fayose, other executives and members of the clergy. Other members of the GMet included the Deputy Director for Research and Applied Meteorology, Mrs. Francisca Martey and Mrs. Paulina Korasare, Chief Met Technician with the Client Services Unit.
