GMet Security Personnel Urged to Apply Training at Duty Posts

The Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Dr. Eric Asuman, has urged security personnel across the Agency’s offices nationwide to put the knowledge and skills acquired through training into practice to improve security and protect the Agency’s staff and assets.
He gave the advice at the closing ceremony of a security training programme on Friday, October 23rd, 2026, following a week of training facilitated by instructors from the Ghana Military Police Training School.
Dr. Asuman said the training was part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of security personnel and improve service delivery, stressing that management would monitor their performance to ensure that the lessons learnt were reflected in their work.
He noted that security personnel played a critical role in protecting the Agency’s property, information and staff, and urged them to see themselves as an important part of GMet’s operations.
He also encouraged personnel to maintain proper communication during shift changes, report security concerns to management and conduct themselves professionally both within and outside the workplace.
The Director-General commended the Human Resource team for organising the training and thanked the instructors for sharing their expertise. He assured the personnel that management would do its best to provide the support and resources needed for them to perform their duties effectively.

The Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Police, Lieutenant Colonel Jacqueline Dela Galley, urged participants to demonstrate commitment at their various duty posts and contribute to improving the image of the Agency.
She encouraged them to perform their duties diligently wherever they found themselves, noting that individual efforts were important to building a stronger and more effective security team.

The Deputy Director-General in charge of General Services, Ms. Vivian Abla Kally, stressed that the success of the training would depend on how well participants applied what they had learnt. She urged them to respect their supervisors, follow instructions and handle staff politely when enforcing security procedures at the gates.
She also advised personnel stationed outside the Agency’s headquarters to maintain the same level of commitment, reminding them that management expected them to uphold the standards taught during the training.

The Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, highlighted the need for proper handovers between security personnel and called for regular drills to improve their readiness and effectiveness on duty.

The training covered key areas of security, including access control, perimeter security, asset protection and the safety of staff and other persons within the Agency’s premises.
At the closing ceremony, one of the beneficiaries, Francis Annobil, expressed appreciation to management and the instructors for the opportunity to participate in the training. He assured them that the participants would apply the knowledge gained at their respective duty posts.

Participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation in the training.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Director of Synoptic Meteorology and Forecasting, Mr. Joseph Tetteh Portuphy; Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Gifty Ofori Samor-Dua; and Head of Finance, Mr. Richard Dogbo. Captain Kofi Osei-Wusu and his team from the Ghana Military Police Training School were also present.
