GMet Showcases Weather and Climate Services at International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Exhibition

As part of activities marking this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) joined an exhibition organised by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme’s Humanitarianitarian Response Depot (WFP UNHRD), on 13 October 2026, under the theme “Resilience Starts at Home.”
GMet used the platform to educate participants on its products and services, with emphasis on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) and the Ghana Climate Atlas. The Agency also took participants through the various weather observation equipment used in its operations, explaining their functions and how they contribute to weather monitoring and forecasting.
The engagement provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about GMet’s work and the processes involved in generating weather forecasts and climate information to support planning, preparedness and decision making.
GMet’s participation highlighted the importance of reliable weather forecasts, climate information and early warning services in disaster risk reduction. These services help individuals, communities and institutions understand weather-related risks and take appropriate action to protect lives and property.
Through the exhibition, GMet reaffirmed its commitment to promoting public awareness of its services and supporting disaster preparedness and resilience through timely and reliable weather and climate information.
