GMet Strengthens Leadership Capacity as Development Programme Ends

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, brought its three-day leadership development programme to a close after a series of practical learning sessions designed to strengthen teamwork, accountability, and performance across the Agency.
The programme, facilitated by L’aine HR under the Ghana-Denmark Strategic Sector Cooperation, equipped Management and Unit Heads with tools for effective leadership through a blend of simulations, group assignments, film-based learning, reflective exercises, and team-bonding activities. Participants worked in teams to solve organisational challenges, practice decision-making under pressure, analyse workplace scenarios, and demonstrate collaborative leadership in practical tasks that were completed throughout the training.
The entire training period, had participants engaged in modules covering integrity in leadership, building high-performance teams, performance management for results, communication for leaders, and crisis-based problem-solving. The activities encouraged shared learning, open discussions, and the application of leadership concepts to real situations faced within the Agency.
At the closing session, the Director-General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman, urged management and staff to strengthen collaboration at all levels of the Agency. He encouraged leaders to work as a unified front, communicate with one voice, and support one another in shaping GMet’s future direction.

The Ag. Deputy Director-General (Operations), Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, called on participants to apply the knowledge gained during the programme, share insights with their teams, and demonstrate leadership that reflects the values introduced during the training.

A representative from the Danish Meteorological Institute, Ms. Julie Alexandra Stensballe, said the level of commitment shown throughout the training reflected a strong drive for progress and noted that DMI would continue to support GMet in building a resilient, effective, and well-coordinated national meteorological institution.

Also in attendance were officials from the Danish Embassy and the Climate Atlas Coordination team from DMI. The closing session also included the presentation of certificates to participants.
The leadership training forms part of ongoing efforts under the Ghana-Denmark Strategic Sector Cooperation to strengthen GMet’s institutional capacity, enhance managerial effectiveness, and promote a culture of accountability and teamwork across the Agency.
