As part of the 2026 Meteorological Awareness Month (MAM) celebrations, a delegation from the Ghana Meteorological Agency Head Office joined the Kumasi Regional Meteorological Office on 17th March 2026 for a series of strategic engagements. The visit marked the first in a planned sequence of management interactions with regional and district offices, aimed at strengthening collaboration between Head Office and field operations, while supporting the effective implementation of MAM activities across the regions.

The GMet delegation comprised Mrs. Vivian Abla Kally, Deputy Director-General (Support Services); Dr. Ignatius K. Williams, Deputy Director-General (Operations); Mrs. Gifty Samor-Dua, Head of Human Resources; and Mr. Richard Ampofo, Deputy Officer in Charge of the Kotoka International Airport Meteorological Office.

The day’s activities commenced with a media engagement, featuring live broadcasts on Lawson TV/FM and Opemsuo Radio. The discussions were centred on “current weather trends and their impact on the citizenry,” providing an important platform to educate the public on the relevance of accurate and timely weather information. During these engagements, Dr. Ignatius K. Williams and Mr. Richard Ampofo provided insights into evolving climate patterns, while simplifying key meteorological concepts to enhance public understanding of weather and climate information.

Dr. Williams further emphasised the importance of relying on continuous weather updates rather than one-time forecasts, noting the dynamic and rapidly changing nature of weather systems. He also cautioned against the circulation of misinformation and urged the public to depend exclusively on official updates issued by GMet.

The media engagement, had a notable impact on the general public by significantly enhancing awareness and understanding of weather-related issues. By translating technical meteorological information into accessible and relatable messages, the interaction empowered viewers and listeners to make informed decisions in their daily activities. It also reinforced public trust in GMet as the authoritative source of weather information, while encouraging greater responsiveness to weather advisories ultimately contributing to improved community preparedness and resilience.
