HON. MINISTER ENGAGES GMET STAFF AT SPECIAL DURBAR

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has addressed the staff of the Ghana Meteorological Agency at a special durbar held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at its headquarters in East-Legon, Accra. The durbar formed part of the Minister’s familiarization of agencies under the Ministry and the broader efforts to interact and gain insights into his vision and priorities for the sector.

The Director-General of the Agency used the occasion to update the Minister on the strategic direction and key reforms undertaken by the Agency. He shared the efforts that have been made to enhance human resource capacity, retool, and address staff welfare needs. He commended the Minister’s strategic role in efforts to enhance the status of GMet at the regional level.

Hon. Samuel George Nartey, in his address, commended the resilience and staff for their commitment to delivering timely and reliable meteorological services that support decision-making in sectors such as agriculture, aviation, water management, and disaster risk reduction.

The Minister also highlighted the value of institutional synergy and pledged his continued support to GMet, noting that the Ministry remains committed to providing the necessary policy backing and resources to strengthen the agency’s capacity.

In an interactive session with staff, the Hon. Minister responded to key matters, including the constitution of the Governing Board, accommodation, network of weather stations, recruitment, staff conditions of service, government directives on budgetary allocations, among others.

The durbar ended with the Minister’s tour of key installations of the Agency, including the GMet Weather Studio, Calibration System, and the Central Analysis and Forecast Office. The Minister also received a briefing on the ongoing renovation of the Old CAFO building, which is nearing completion and is expected to house the technical services of the organization.
