Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications Visits Ghana Meteorological Agency

On Wednesday, 1st October 2025, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) hosted the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications at its headquarters. The visit focused on the Agency’s mandate, legal framework, achievements, and challenges.
In her welcome remarks on behalf of the Director-General, Dr. Eric Asuman, the Deputy Director-General for Support Services, Mrs. Vivian Abla Kally, expressed appreciation for the Committee’s engagement. “We are delighted and privileged to have you here to understand our work and to help us forge ahead, as you have always done,” she said.
Mrs. Kally pointed to the continuous support of the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Finance in advancing the work of the Agency. “The Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Finance have always been instrumental in the achievement of Ghana Meteo, and we are hoping that you will be the backbone for more to come,” she added.
The Committee was also briefed on key milestones, including the Agency’s ISO certification and the rollout of the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), which has improved the delivery of weather information.
The Agency also highlighted challenges, particularly the lack of dedicated funding from some institutions that rely on its services, as well as general budgetary constraints.
Members of the Committee later toured key operational units including the observatory, engineering department, the Central Analysis and Forecasting Office (CAFO), the weather studio, and the newly completed CAFO block.
The visit provided an opportunity for direct engagement with the Agency’s work and the need for stronger institutional support to sustain and expand its services.
