Two new staff members from the Roberts Flight Information Region (Roberts FIR) have successfully completed a one-monthfoundational training in aeronautical meteorology in Accra. The programme, which took place at the Tomreik Hotel, ended with a brief closing ceremony at the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) conference room on Thursday, 4th December, 2025, where the participants were presented with certificates.

In his remarks, the Director-General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman, expressed delight at hosting the team and noted that this was not the first time Roberts FIR had entrusted GMet with such capacity-building. He emphasized that the return of another group is a strong indication that previous trainings had been impactful. He praised the participants for their discipline, cooperation and professionalism during their stay in Ghana, adding that their conduct had brought credit to their organization.

Dr. Asuman encouraged the trainees to apply the knowledge gained in their day-to-day duties and to share what they have learned with colleagues, stressing that training only becomes meaningful when it translates into improved operational results. He urged them to ensure that the investment made in their development is reflected in the quality of their aviation weather services going forward.

Representing the instructor team, Mr. Raphael Boakye a Principal Meteorologist and Manager at the Kotoka International Airport Meteorological Office explained that the training covered essential components of aeronautical meteorology to strengthen the participants’ ability to understand and produce aviation weather products, particularly SIGMETs. Because the trainees came from different academic backgrounds, the facilitators structured the sessions to ensure both could progress effectively. The course combined theoretical instruction with practical exposure, including a visit to GMet’s observatory to familiarize them with meteorological instruments and observation procedures.
