On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) called on the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Hon. Issifu Seidu. The meeting provided a platform to discuss the Agency’s operations, present the 2025 Seasonal Forecast, and share the 2024 State of the Climate Report for Ghana. While the primary purpose of the visit was to present the seasonal projections and climate trends, the engagement also served as an opportunity to explore potential areas for strategic collaboration between GMet and the Ministry.

The GMet team, led by Mrs. Francisca Martey, Deputy Director in charge of Research and Applied Meteorology, presented a comprehensive overview of the current climate trends and detailed projections for the upcoming season.

In his remarks, Hon. Seidu stressed the need to make weather and climate information more accessible and relevant to the everyday Ghanaian. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between scientific forecasts and public comprehension, stressing that the public must be able to relate to and act upon weather information. “We need to ensure that the public understands weather forecasts. Even if we have to simplify the information, we must communicate it in ways that everyone can relate to, whether through local languages or tailored geographic messages. This will ensure people know what to expect from the weather each day,” he said. He further noted that GMet’s ability to improve communication efforts would be central to achieving this objective.

Hon. Seidu also reiterated his commitment to fostering collaboration with GMet, emphasizing the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in achieving the country’s climate resilience goals.

The productive discussions held during this visit are expected to pave the way for more robust partnerships and enhanced communication strategies, ensuring that GMet’s weather and climate information reaches and benefits all Ghanaians. This engagement marks a key milestone in advancing Ghana’s efforts to navigate the challenges of climate change and build a more climate-resilient future for the nation.
