WMO Conference Officer Engages GMet on Preparations for 19th WMO RA I Conference

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has taken another step forward in preparations to host the 19th Session of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Association I (RA I) Conference, scheduled to take place in Ghana in February 2027.
As part of ongoing preparations, GMet is engaging with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to ensure that the conference meets the expected international standards and provides a successful and memorable platform for participants from across the region.
Ms. Sohyun Na, Conference Officer at WMO, was at GMet on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, for discussions with members of the Local Organizing Committee as preparations gather momentum towards the conference.
Leading the discussions, Deputy Director-General, General Services, Madam Vivian Abla Kally, welcomed Ms. Na and expressed appreciation for her presence, time and efforts in supporting the team as preparations for the conference progress.
Her engagement with GMet provided an important opportunity to strengthen coordination between the host country and WMO, while ensuring that preparations for the upcoming conference remain aligned with WMO’s expectations and requirements.
Joining the meeting later, Director-General, Dr. Eric Asuman, commended the Local Organizing Committee for the work done so far and expressed confidence in the team’s efforts towards delivering a successful conference.
Dr. Asuman noted the importance of ensuring that the upcoming conference goes beyond a successful event to provide an enriching and memorable experience for all participants.
The 19th WMO RA I Conference will bring together representatives from WMO Member States and Territories across Africa, as well as other stakeholders, to deliberate on issues of importance to meteorological, hydrological and climate services in the region.
For Ghana, hosting the conference represents an important opportunity to showcase the country’s capacity to convene a major international event while highlighting the vital role of weather, climate and water information in supporting resilience and sustainable development.
GMet, together with relevant national stakeholders and WMO, will continue engagements in the coming months as preparations advance towards the February 2027 conference.
