On 23rd March 2026, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), through its innovative “Y3n Kasa” initiative, created an open, relatable, and engaging platform for conversations around weather, climate, and environmental responsibility. The programme, which lasted for approximately two hours, formed part of activities aimed at increasing public awareness and strengthening climate communication among young people in Ghana. Rather than relying solely on formal communication channels, GMet adopted a bold and innovative approach by partnering with digital influencer KalyJay, one of Ghana’s most influential online personalities whose voice resonates strongly with the youth. The collaboration was designed not merely as a publicity campaign, but as a bridge between science and society. Through Y3n Kasa, GMet sought to humanize meteorological information, making weather forecasts, climate education, and disaster preparedness information more accessible to everyday Ghanaians, particularly the younger generation who consume most of their information online.During the engagement, discussions focused on seasonal weather forecasts, climate change impacts, flood preparedness, heat stress awareness, environmental protection, and the importance of paying attention to official weather warnings and advisories. Participants were also educated on how weather and climate conditions affect agriculture, transportation, health, water resources, and daily decision-making. The space further highlighted practical actions individuals and communities could take to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience. At the center of the initiative was the belief that communication is most effective when people see themselves reflected in it. KalyJay’s relatable personality and massive online reach provided the perfect platform for translating technical weather and climate information into simple, engaging conversations that audiences could easily understand and trust. The particular engagement recorded a digital reach of 4,000+, reflecting strong online interaction and interest from audiences who engaged with the conversation across various platforms.
