Drought and flood monitoring bulletin
The Flood and Drought Bulletin provides a monthly overview of rainfall conditions across Ghana, using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) as a key tool for monitoring and assessing drought and flood risk. The SPI is a widely recognized meteorological index that quantifies precipitation anomalies by comparing observed rainfall over a specific accumulation period with the long-term historical average for the same period at a given location. By capturing both short- and long-term deviations from normal rainfall patterns, the SPI enables the identification of emerging dry or wet conditions. This bulletin supports early warning efforts by providing timely and spatially detailed information to guide climate-sensitive sectors, including agriculture, water resources, and disaster risk management.
