Numerical Weather Prediction

Modelling and Prediction

What We Provide

The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Unit at the Ghana Meteorological Agency utilizes observational data, mathematical models, and computational methods to simulate atmospheric dynamics and deliver forecasts of upcoming weather conditions.

Currently, our unit utilizes regional models such as the Weather Research and Forecast Model (WRF) and the Wave Watch III Model. These models are indispensable for meteorologists, aiding in the comprehension, prediction, and dissemination of weather-related risks and consequences.

The services provided by NWP are essential for the functionality and decision-making processes of other divisions within the agency, including the Marine Unit and the Central Analysis and Forecast Office.
