As part of the activities marking the launch and formation of Green Climate Clubs in Akim Oda on Friday, 4th July 2025, a group of Geography students and their teachers from Akim Swedru Senior High School and St. Francis Senior High/Technical School took the opportunity to visit the Akim Oda Meteorological Office for a practical and educational experience.

The visit, which took place shortly after the main launch program, offered students firsthand exposure to the operational workings of a District meteorological station and the critical role the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) plays in climate services and national development.

Welcomed and guided by staff of the Akim Oda Met Office, the students toured the observation yard, received demonstrations on weather instruments, and were introduced to basic weather recording and forecasting procedures. Staff members explained how localized data contributes to national climate monitoring, agricultural planning, and early warning systems for disasters.

As Geography students, the visit provided valuable insight that linked their classroom learning to real-world applications. They engaged actively, asking thoughtful questions and how climate data is used in decision-making.

The visit served as a practical demonstration of the educational access being granted to the clubs, reinforcing GMet’s commitment to equipping young people with the knowledge and tools to understand and address climate challenges.
