GMet Concludes Refresher Training for Senior Technicians
Ag. DDG Operations Urges Participants to Prioritize Competence, Collaboration and Professional Growth

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has successfully concluded a three-day refresher training programme for selected Principal and Senior Meteorological Technicians, with a renewed call on staff to deepen their competence, embrace continuous learning and work together to strengthen the Agency’s service delivery.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Friday 5th December 2025, Ag. Deputy Director-General (Operations), Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, commended the participants for their high level of engagement throughout the training, describing their contributions and questions as evidence of genuine commitment to improving their craft.
Dr. Williams encouraged the technicians to value competence above titles, stressing that the true measure of performance lies in the ability to deliver under pressure, apply professional judgement, and uphold the standards required of their ranks.
“It is not the beauty of the title that matters,” he said. “Every rank comes with responsibility, and the most important question is whether we are prepared to meet the expectations that come with the roles we aspire to occupy. Competence is what earns respect and relevance.”
The Ag. Deputy Director-General also shared personal experiences from his early career journey, illustrating the importance of self-driven learning and the ability to adapt to new systems without waiting for formal instruction. He urged participants to cultivate a similar attitude proactively seeking knowledge, sharing skills among colleagues, and taking initiative within their stations and regions.
“We must not always wait for formal training before learning something new, there is a wealth of knowledge around us, among colleagues, supervisors, manuals, and resource persons. We need to support each other, share experiences, and collectively work toward improving the system.” he advised.
Dr. Williams encouraged the trainees to remain in touch with their instructors and facilitators, noting that learning does not end with the workshop. He acknowledged the dedication of long-serving technical experts within the Agency and urged participants to tap into their experience whenever they face operational challenges.
During the ceremony, participants were presented with certificates of participation and expressed gratitude to management for the opportunity to refresh and upgrade their knowledge. Many described the training as timely, practical, and enriching.
The three-day programme covered key thematic areas including meteorological observation and coding, instrumentation, electronic data recording, aeronautical reporting, interpretation of daily forecasts, and essential workplace practices.
Dr. Williams encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge gained, support one another across districts and regions, and continue contributing meaningfully to GMet’s mission.
“As we all move in the same direction, the work becomes lighter and progress becomes inevitable, let us carry the right mindset, collaborate effectively, and continue to make this Agency proud.” he concluded.
