GMet Organizes Change Management Training for Officers to Stimulate Organizational Reforms

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), in collaboration with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) under the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programme and with support from the Royal Danish Embassy in Ghana, has begun a three-day Change Management Training for its Regional and District Meteorological Officers (RMOs and DMOs) and Sectional Heads.
The training, which runs from Thursday, 9th October to Saturday, 11th October 2025, at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi, comes at a crucial time as the Agency transitions into a new organizational structure and scheme of service. It seeks to strengthen GMet’s leadership base, promote teamwork, and ensure a smooth transition as the Agency enhances its systems and operations.
Facilitated by L’AINE HR, the training focuses on building leadership and management skills, equipping participants to guide change within their departments, and deepening their understanding of how organizational change can be effectively managed. It also encourages active participation in the Agency’s reform process while promoting accountability and shared responsibility across all levels.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Director-General of GMet, Dr. Eric Asuman, noted that the training had come at an important point in the Agency’s transformation process. He emphasized that every staff member has a role to play in ensuring progress and sustainability within GMet.
“When we say GMet, it is us in this room, because all of us have a leadership role,” Dr. Asuman remarked. He urged participants to take an active part in the sessions, learn from one another, and apply the lessons in their respective duties.
In his welcome address, the Acting Deputy Director-General (Operations), Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, highlighted the need for empathy, openness, and collaboration in leadership. He encouraged participants to embrace change as a shared responsibility that will strengthen the Agency’s work culture.
“How can we change to improve the organization? How can we all move forward together?” he asked, challenging participants to keep these questions in mind and to approach the training with a practical and positive attitude.
Delivering the keynote address, the Chairman of the Governing Board of GMet, Mr. Selasie Woanyah, Esq., commended the Royal Danish Embassy and the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) for their continuous support to the Agency. He observed that the collaboration has been instrumental in helping GMet pursue excellence in meteorological service delivery.
“Transformation requires shared ownership, not passive expectation. We must participate in the transformation that we seek from GMet,” Mr. Woanyah emphasized, encouraging participants to demonstrate leadership by embracing change and modeling the right attitudes in their workplaces.
Representing L’AINE HR, Mrs. Beatrice Prempeh, Assistant Facilitator for the training, delivered a message on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. James Laar. She praised GMet for its commitment to capacity building and urged participants to take the lead in promoting new ways of thinking and working.
“The success of any change initiative depends on how leaders model the desired behavior. As you return to your regions and offices, let the transformation begin with you,” she advised.
The opening session was attended by members of GMet management, as well as representatives from the Royal Danish Embassy in Ghana, Mr. Kim Sarup, and from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), Mr. Christian Robdrup Johansen, together with facilitators from L’AINE HR. The training includes interactive presentations, group activities, and discussions that encourage participants to share experiences and develop practical strategies for leading change within their teams.
The training reaffirms GMet’s commitment to continuous improvement and strong leadership across all levels of the Agency. It reflects the organization’s determination to build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.
It also supports the goals of the Ghana–Denmark Strategic Sector Cooperation, which focuses on enhancing GMet’s capacity to provide timely and relevant weather and climate services, developing a sustainable training structure, and strengthening its engagement with policy and stakeholder needs. Through initiatives like this, GMet continues to develop a responsive and effective organization that provides accurate and timely weather and climate information to protect lives, livelihoods, and property across Ghana.
