The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) on Friday, March 13, 2026, held a media engagement at the West African Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) at the University of Ghana to present the 2025 State of the Climate in Ghana Report.

The engagement formed part of activities marking this year’s National Meteorological Awareness Month (MAM) and was aimed at helping the public better understand weather and climate changes in the country.

The report showed that 2025 was one of the warmest years Ghana has experienced in the past 35 years. The year recorded higher temperatures than usual in many parts of the country, with Navrongo recording the highest temperature of 43.2°C in April.

The report also noted that rainfall across the country was slightly lower than the usual levels for the year, although the amount of rain varied from place to place. While Axim recorded the highest amount of rainfall, Tema recorded the lowest.

In some parts of the year, rainfall was lower than expected, while in other periods, more rain was recorded than usual. These changes affected different communities in different ways, including farming activities and water availability.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Dr. Eric Asuman, said the report helps the country understand how weather and climate conditions are changing and what that means for the future. “Our key lesson is not simply that the climate is changing, but that we must become better prepared to live with these changes,” he said.

Dr. Asuman explained that the report provides important information to guide planning and help the country respond more effectively to climate-related challenges.

Also speaking at the event, Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at GMet, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, urged the media to make good use of the information contained in the report. He encouraged journalists to consult the State of the Climate reports and use the information appropriately in their reporting and planning.

The State of the Climate Report is produced by GMet each year to provide an overview of the weather and climate conditions experienced across the country and to support better decision-making in various sectors.
