GMet Wraps Three-day Change Management Workshop in Kumasi – Leaders Pledge to Cascade Reforms

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has successfully concluded a three-day Change Management training workshop in Kumasi aimed at strengthening leadership and management capacities among its Regional/District Officers, and Sectional Heads.
The workshop, held from 9th to 11th October 2025, brought together participants from across the country. The sessions were designed to equip participants with practical tools and the right mindset to drive organizational transformation, communicate effectively, and manage change within their respective units.
Throughout the three days, facilitators from L’AINE HR delivered a blend of interactive presentations, group discussions, role plays, and team-building activities. Participants explored key change management concepts, reflected on leadership approaches, and engaged in hands-on exercises. They also drew leadership lessons from the films Invictus and Conclave, which highlighted themes of resilience, teamwork, and purpose in leading through change.
Group presentations and plenary sessions gave participants the opportunity to translate lessons into action plans for implementation in their stations. The lively and collaborative atmosphere underscored a shared commitment to making GMet a more dynamic and responsive organization.
Ag. DDG (Operations) urges renewed mindset and accountability
In his closing remarks, the Acting Deputy Director-General (Operations), Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams, commended participants for their dedication and active engagement throughout the training. He described the workshop as both timely and necessary, given GMet’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and enhance service delivery.
Dr. Williams emphasized that successful transformation must begin with individuals adopting new attitudes and approaches.
“Change is going to start with you, and it’s going to start with me. We cannot continue doing things the same way and expect different results. Every staff member from the top to the front line has a role to play in shaping the future of GMet.”
He urged participants to strengthen internal communication, hold regular staff meetings, and promote teamwork and transparency within their departments. Dr. Williams also called for renewed accountability and professionalism, reminding staff that the Agency’s credibility depends on the value and reliability of its services.
“We must move away from a transactional mindset and embrace a culture of service and performance. The people we serve, farmers, pilots, sailors, and the general public are counting on us. Let’s prove that GMet is capable, professional, and forward-looking, he said.”
The closing ceremony ended on a celebratory note, as participants received certificates of participation in recognition of their active involvement and commitment throughout the workshop. Many expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn, connect, and reflect on their roles as change leaders within the Agency.
The training concluded with renewed enthusiasm and a collective pledge to apply the knowledge gained to foster positive transformation and strengthen GMet’s operations across the country.
