National Framework for Climate Services
NFCS in Ghana is to collaborate, coordinate and bridge the gap between the climate information developed by scientists, climate institutions and the producer of climate services
National Framework for Climate Services
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) proudly launched the National Framework for Climate Services (NFCS) on World Meteorological Day, March 24, 2023. The NFCS is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity of GMet to provide accurate and timely climate information, supporting decision-making across various sectors of the Ghanaian economy. By bolstering the generation and dissemination of crucial climate data, the NFCS seeks to mitigate the risks posed by climate variability and change, fostering climate-resilient strategies and actions in collaboration with key stakeholders.
In partnership with the newly established Meteorological Society of Ghana (MSG), the second of its kind in Africa, GMet is set to advance meteorological science and its application in Ghana. The NFCS represents a significant milestone towards the development of a sustainable meteorological industry, enhancing coordination and preparation against climate change impacts. Through this comprehensive framework, GMet commits to improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians by providing vital climate services that are pivotal for the agricultural sector and beyond, ensuring a climate-informed future for the nation.
